Streets of Italy

The second of my series of blog posts showcasing my work. In this post I show you some of my favourite street shots from Rome, Catania and Venice. I think I have created some of my best streets shots, shooting in Italy and can't wait to revisit the country and travel there some more. In this post I've included some more quotes from photographers that have inspired my work.

“Great photography is about depth of feeling, not depth of field.” – Peter Adams

'My photographs are more questions than answers. I use photography to help me understand why I am here. The camera helps me see.' Trent Parke

'I believe that the photographers job is to cut a frame-sized slice out of the world around him, so faithfully and honestly that if he were to put it back, life and the world would begin to move again without a stumble.' Raghu Rai

'For me it is a personal journey to be out there on the street. I'm trying to catch a moment that means something to me.' Ying Tang

'I only know how to approach a place by walking. For what does a street photographer do but walk and watch and wait and talk, and then watch and wait some more, trying to remain confident that the unexpected, the unknown, or the secret heart of the known awaits just around the corner.' Alex Webb

'It's exciting to make something extraordinary out of the banal.' Jeff Mermelstein

'I used to go fishing as a child, and now I see the street as a river, you just don't know what it's going to serve up, if anything.' Nick Turpin

'I like to create fiction out of reality. I try and do this by taking society's natural prejudice and giving it a twist.' Martin Parr

'What I am looking for is a chance event, an element of physical change, or a blip in normality. If that sounds pretentious, often when I take a photo I'm just thinking, that look nice.' Paul Russell

'Street photographers never switch off. You have to be constantly on the lookout for unreal moment in the everyday.' Jesse Marlow

'I take a lot of photos when I'm drinking and usually come out well. Sometimes, if they're not happening, I'll just drink some more.' Boris Savelev
